What's the one thing you can do today that would make the most impact in your life?
Change is difficult. Change is a process that requires work and hard decisions about what to let go of and what to adopt. Many of us become overwhelmed when we think about making changes in our lives.
Changes such as finding a new job, buying a house or a new car, or making adjustments in a relationship can create anxiety and stress.
Part of the overwhelm that comes with thinking about change is the muscularity of the change-process. We see where we are, and where we want to be, and the gap in between seems a chasm too far.
But all change should be viewed granularly. That means, change is often seen in hindsight because change is a process of doing several small things.
Change begins with a decision. We decide to move from Point A to Point B. But to get to Point B, we will need to do, for example, 10 different things. And within each of those things are multiple things that need to be done as well.
Many reading this will agree that regular Bible reading feeds our souls and helps us to become more Christlike. Yet, many would likely also agree that they don’t read their Bible enough. Deciding to go from irregularly reading the Bible to becoming a daily Bible reader isn’t enough.
Instead, decide simply to become more regular with your Bible reading. Make several smaller decisions, such as:
When (time of day; i.e., first thing in the morning) will you read your Bible?
Where (location; i.e., a specific chair or in the car on your lunch break) will you read your Bible?
What book of the Bible will you begin with?
How much will you read each time?
What would be helpful to you as a marker? (i.e, keeping a journal, underlining the text, writing a verse card for the day)
Smaller decisions like these help you create the map that will enable you to achieve growth.
What change would you like to make? What smaller decisions need to be part of that change?
